Carbon Hill, Alabama - WalkerCounty.US

Carbon Hill, Alabama, settled in 1886, because of coal mining and the railroad, is today joined by manufacturing and agricultural industries. The Galloway Coal Company was responsible for the early development of the town. A post office was established in 1887 with John T. Anderson as the first Postmaster. By 1888, the community had grown enough to support the Carbon Hill United Methodist Church.

 

 




In February, 1891, the town of Carbon Hill was incorporated. The following year, the Baptist Church of Carbon Hill was organized. The population today is approximately 2,017.
