Walker County is governed by a commission. Four commissioners are elected by districts and a Commission Chairman, elected by the voters of the county-at-large, administer to the functions of the County Government.

The city of Jasper is the largest municipality in Walker County. The city is comprised of 27 square miles and is the county seat for Walker County. The government operates under a mayor-council form including a full-time

 

 




mayor, a city council president and five council members, elected by districts. Administration of the city of Jasper is vested in the elected officials and various municipal boards.

Carbon Hill, Cordova, Dora, Eldridge, Kansas, Nauvoo, Oakman, Parrish, Sipsey, and Sumiton are each governed by a Mayor-Council form of government. A mayor and council are elected by the voters. Administration of each city is handled through the councils and the city clerks. Various departments also comprise the administrative responsibility for the cities.
